Plutarch’s Moralia: a collection of essays covering a wide range of philosophical topics, in 32 volumes.
The Moralia brings together 183 treatises and discourses by Plutarch, covering a broad thematic range. They were written before his other great work, the Parallel Lives.
They offer a unique window into the moral, religious, and intellectual life of the ancient world, blending practical advice with deep philosophical reflection. At the same time, they remain highly influential today, as they explore timeless themes such as character, leadership, education, and the pursuit of inner balance.
What does the collection include?
The Moralia include celebrated works such as On the Education of Children, On Virtue, On Fate, On Isis and Osiris, On Tranquillity of Mind, Symposiacs, Political Precepts, On Homer, and others.
The collection also includes the so-called “Pseudo-Plutarchan” works, which—although attributed to Plutarch—are of later authorship.
Each volume contains the original Ancient Greek text, a modern Greek translation, as well as an introduction and commentary.
