If a great philosopher is one who opens new paths, then Plato is unquestionably the greatest of all time. Not only for Greece, but for the entire world. Plato’s work shaped the foundations of philosophy, science, and education, profoundly influencing Western thought.
Plato was the first to organize systematically the pursuit of knowledge, ethics, aesthetics, political philosophy, and the sciences—such as mathematics—offering a comprehensive system of education. He introduced new methods of philosophical and scientific inquiry and exerted an immense influence on later thinkers, from Aristotle to modern European philosophers.
Why is the collection important?
Through his major works, such as Republic, Phaedo, Parmenides, the Laws, and others, the core of Platonic philosophy comes to the fore: the search for truth, the nature of the soul, and the relationship between human beings and the divine, as well as eternal knowledge.
No work of Plato is accidental; the depth and precision of his thought remain unchanged over time. His work formed the foundation for both his great student, Aristotle, and for all later philosophers and scientists.
